A consultation label is not a product advertising exemption
TGA guidance treats direct and indirect references to prescription medicines as relevant to public advertising restrictions. That includes class descriptions and an overall presentation that promotes access to a product. Many products in this sector are unapproved goods; a prescription, pharmacy supply or clinic consultation does not turn them into TGA-approved products. Avoid claims about product quality, purity, safety or effectiveness.
Clinic websites, blogs and social content can all be advertising. An educational disclaimer does not create a separate set of rules. Pages organised around performance, anti-ageing or recovery goals can still promote a restricted product through their context. We do not recommend a collection of goal pages that leads people to a medicine-focused booking menu.
How we would plan the audience and creative
We start with a documented assessment of the actual offer and Meta eligibility. Australia is not a market in which a clinic can simply run prescription drug advertising with the right creative wording. If the service is inseparable from promoting restricted products, we do not recommend a paid social launch.
Where a genuine broader medical service is suitable for advertising, creative can explain practitioner roles and the consultation process without naming or implying products. Avoid performance, anti-ageing or physique promises. Keep audience selection broad and appropriate to the real service area, with no patient-list seeds or health-related remarketing. Do not reuse an influencer's product story and assume that adding a booking disclaimer changes what it promotes.
Creative themes with a clear information purpose
- practitioner information
- genuine medical service scope
- consultation process
- telehealth arrangements
- follow-up care information
We tailor these ideas to your services, audience and advertising requirements.
Audience and creative boundaries
We develop campaign messages around your practitioners, services and consultation process. Do not use product interests, bodybuilding outcomes, patient lists, prescribing data or health-related page audiences. No evasion through altered spelling, euphemisms or concealed destinations.
What the landing page needs to answer
Review the entire site and booking journey before using it as a destination. A neutral ad must not lead to a medicine-led menu. Keep clinical screening outside social forms, and explain the actual medical service without a prescribing promise.
Describe only genuine medical services
Where the clinic provides a broader medical assessment service, explain the practitioner's credentials, what a consultation involves and how follow-up is arranged, without promising a prescription. Pathology and monitoring content must describe actual care rather than operate as coded product promotion. If the service cannot be described honestly without advertising restricted goods, promotion through search or ads may not be suitable.
Keep assessment answers, pathology, medicines and clinical notes in a secure clinical system. A marketing report can record aggregate enquiry and appointment counts without passing sensitive information to an advertising platform. A platform's inability to measure a conversion does not justify sending it health data.
Plan a focused Meta advertising test
We plan an initial campaign around your services, appointment capacity and objectives, then use enquiry results to guide the next step.
Advertising and communication boundaries
TGA restrictions, Ahpra advertising requirements for the medical service and platform healthcare rules must all be satisfied. Do not use product names, class-led consumer offers, prescribing guarantees or an editorial loophole. The whole destination, including its business presentation and linked pages, needs review. Legal suitability and platform eligibility are separate questions.
A factual description of a genuine general medical assessment may be a starting point for review. "Book an anti-ageing peptide consultation" is not made acceptable by adding "subject to medical approval". Context matters, and the campaign may need to remain paused.
Keep sensitive information out of audience and conversion data
A platform can report a lead without proving that the enquiry was appropriate or that an appointment occurred. Agree internal stages for contactability, suitability and booking before judging creative. Compare platform attribution with the clinic or provider records and explain discrepancies rather than combining the numbers into a single result.
We keep health information out of pixels, server events, URLs and form data sent to ad platforms, and use only permitted signals. Where those are unavailable, we reconcile results against your own records.
How we would judge the work
If promotion is suitable, compare permitted platform measures with aggregate clinic enquiry and appointment records. Do not transfer sensitive conversion details merely because the account has limited event visibility.
Five mistakes to check in an audit
- SEO treated as outside advertising law. A clinic blog that promotes restricted goods can still be advertising, even when no ad spend is involved.
- Goal pages lead to product bookings. Removing a product name from the page title does not change a medicine-led offer in the body or booking flow.
- Pharmacy supply used as a quality claim. Do not imply approval, purity or effectiveness from the dispensing pathway.
- Policy rejection leads to disguised wording. Do not cloak destinations, alter spelling or use euphemisms to evade review. Reassess whether the service can be advertised.
- Unrelated clinic CPLs used to sell the channel. Campaign decisions should use enquiries from your own clinic, rather than another specialty’s lead costs.
